Recently this year my family bought a horse who had been abused before she came to us. I'm not sure of the exact ways she was abused but when she arrived to our house she was covered in scars and cuts. Sonny was too afraid of human touch that she wouldn't even take a cookie out of our hands. This made me extremely upset but also interested me in being able to help horses recover from these types of conflicts. No animal deserves to go through abuse, they cant speak or tell us what they want. We have to care for them ourselves.
These pictures were taken on September 13th 2017. These are the permanent scars left on my horse Sonny after trying to get them to heal with this thick lotion called Bag Balm. When she first came to our house these scars were a lot worse and they have gotten a lot better while she has been with us.
These pictures are of my other horse my gelding, Doc. He is a Quarter horse just like Sonny. He is quite the fresh one but as you can see from the past months are working he is slowly but surely coming around.
This is Sonny, the horse you saw in the beginning. after months of handling and getting much more comfortable she is finally looking amazing. with some handling work she is the first one at the gate to greet you in the morning and follows me around everywhere. she loves cookies. still working on manners with riding. slowly but surely getting there.
